contemplative quote from Lamentations Agape Bible Study
The Book of Lamentations

Lamentations consist of five chapters of mournful poems describing the destruction of Jerusalem, God's righteous anger, a prayer for mercy, the Babylonian siege of the city, and a prayer for the restoration of a penitent nation. The first four poems are dirges with an acrostic structure describing Jerusalem's funeral. No author is named, but the Greek translation of the Old Testament names Jeremiah as the author interpreting 2 Chronicles 35:25 as referring to Lamentations, and some early Church Fathers agreed. Its placement after the Book of Jeremiah reflects this belief.
